Jacksonville 03:19
Jacksonville It was ninety degrees in Jacksonville
I lay my head on the windowsill
and watched hummingbirds as they drank their fill
and considered if love coexists with free will.
God loves the farmer when the weather is fair
and God loves the poor man who's willing to share
and I love you even though you don't care
in the fullness of time, even rock will wear. And the roses still bloom in the autumn
Till winter winds blow them away
 Why can't they stay?
Why can't you stay?
Why won't you stay? Fire makes ashes, everything else makes dust
what's not made of gold will eventually rust
I know what I know and I know what I trust
When my heart's on my sleeve there's nothing to discuss. God loves the farmer when the weather is fair
and God loves the poor man who’s willing to share
and I love you even though you don’t care
in the fullness of time, even rock will wear It was ninety degrees in Jacksonville

Love Can Die 02:43
Love Can Die Lyrics by Pat Schneider & Susan Kane, Music by Susan Kane

Daddy was a bad man, he made Mama cry
I loved him, Mama said, but love can die
Daddy was a weak man, he told a lie
I loved him, Mama said, but love can die. You look like your Daddy, green, green of eye
I love you, Mama said, but love can die. Love can die, love can die, in the blink of an eye, love can die
Watch that bird fly, love can die, love can die, love can die. Daddy bought a ticket, no tears in Daddy’s eyes
He is leaving, Mama said, Cause love can die
Daddy rode that Yellow Dog, somewhere by and by
I won’t forget what Mama said that, love can die. I look like my Daddy, green, green of eye
I love you, Mama said, but, love can die. Love can die, love can die, the well run dry, love can die
Don’t ask why, love can die, love can die, love can die.

Away 03:38
The dead they don’t know what they’re missing
Every day they keep on slipping away
Away, away, away
Hold them in mind, they fly over that wall Flying so fast they can’t hear you call, fly away. The dead they don’t know what they’re missing
Every day they keep on slipping away
Away, away, away
Go on with your life, cook your meals, make your bed
Tell the face in the picture the things your friends said, fade away. Everyone crosses that bridge, severs those ties
They leave you behind
The hands of the clock cease to turn
The footprints fill in, the last petal drops. The dead they don’t know what they’re missing
Every day you keep on slipping away
Away, away, away
Keep them in mind as you leave them behind every day
And their shades just grow thinner and fainter and dimmer
Fade away, fade away, fade away.

Worn Out Lines Susan Kane & Fred Gillen, Jr. I noticed you alone in that corner, I wonder if you’d like to talk to me
I may look rough and tumbled, but I’m housebroke and I’m humble
A gentle gentleman of the old school. You say that you like my patina, it’s the finest that you’ve ever seen.
If that is your best line, did you see that exit sign?
Don’t let the door hit you on your way out. Sitting in the glow of the old jukebox, trading worn out lines like two old fools
We can’t seem to get out of our own way, maybe we’re not ready for the truth.
They say experience is the best teacher, I’ve been down some rough and rocky roads
But there’s fire in me still, and I’ll give you such a thrill
The likes of which you have never known. It’s plain to hear that you have done your homework, and you are a very good school boy
Let’s go smoke some cigarettes, I ain’t quite done with you yet
Take your brain off of that old barstool. Gazing at stars in the parking lot, we could have been driving nails through rocks
As smoke curled from our last cigarette.
Silently we longed for that old jukebox, out of lines, like two old desperate fools
Two fools who just had to have their own way, and honey, that's the sad and lonely truth. Back beside the glow of that old jukebox, in our separate corners, two old fools
we decided to go on our own ways, that’s how we found the sad and lonely truth
that’s how we found the sad and lonely truth
that’s how we found the sad and lonely truth.

I’m the kind that likes to take it easy, I’d rather take the short way than the long
some might say that I am lazy, I believe they might not be wrong
I burned my mouth on apple pie and pizza, my license has more points than my IQ
meditation might cure my impatience, if I could only sit one session through
You know I just love slip on shoes
Don’t want no buckles, no zippers, no ties
They slow you down, you know how time flies
shoelaces unravel and they interrupt your travel
Just give me slip on shoes, slip on shoes, slip on shoes Mise en place, what the hell is that? a stitch in time saves nine
measure twice, cut once, I never understood those nursery rhymes
Someday all my rushing will catch up with me as I cut my very last corner
slow down, smell the coffee, smell the roses, but running surely keeps a body warmer
and that’s why I just love slip on shoes Don’t want no buckles, no zippers, no ties
They slow you down you know how time flies
shoelaces unravel and they interrupt your travel
Just give me slip on shoes, slip on shoes, slip on shoes
Maybe speed laces, maybe boots Yeah boots Definitely boots

A Man of Much Merit Rob Morsberger Dear Father, I am dying, But don’t you mourn for me
For I have seen such beauty as I never thought to see
And God is all around us in this Western paradise
The beauty of the country, glory of the sunrise. High upon a hill that overlooks the river
Father, I am bound for the arms of my forgiver. Across this handsome prairie, far from the world we know
My poor soul is migrating with the deer and buffalo
And the gosling on the water are such a pretty sight
Soon they will fly away up into the dimming light. High upon a hill that overlooks the river
Father, I am bound for the arms of my forgiver. As beautiful a piece of land, as I can hardly bear it
Father, I tried hard to be a man of much merit. The rolling hills and valleys so beautifully divide
The vastness of the prairie that we sit alongside
And this part of the Missouri is at least three miles wide
Father, I must go away now to the other side. High upon a hill that overlooks the river
Father, I am bound for the arms of my forgiver

Lying awake, it's late at night, it's late in life.
We've lived in this house a long, long time
It's been mostly fine, most of the time. Was it just yesterday or twenty years ago? It’s hard to know
Time was when the babies cried, We’d be up all night, until the light.
Long weary nights, I longed for sleep, never counted sheep
Warm baby at my breast, I stroked their heads, and breathed their scent.
Now, when I wake in the night
All I hear is the sound
of a lonely barred owl.
Or a coyote’s song,
So why do I long
to hear babies now? Still crying babies haunt my dreams
I never thought I’d miss that sound
When the long night comes down.  I'll never hear my babies cry, never hear them again
When all the pretty birds leave the nest
And the old birds take their rest
When all the pretty birds leave the nest
And the old birds take their rest.

The Veery 03:50
The Veery nests on the ground.
She sings so sweetly
A high and silvery sound.
By the time the peonies fall down
She has flown. The Veery, makes her way
a perilous journey so far away
clouds and winds won't blow her astray
from the Orinoco.   My feet are bound to the forest floor
I have no wings, I cannot soar
My voice uncertain, rough and unsure
Return veery to my back door.
Winter is dreary, chilly and dark
we grow weary, wishing for a spark
fires burning, spring return
bring that silvery song.
